The ‘Dune: Part Three’ Trailer Makes It Look More Awesome Than the Last

Remember watching Dune: Part One and thinking, “Well, it can’t get bigger or better than that”? Then Dune: Part Two came out, and we were all like, “Oh, wow. That actually is bigger and better.” Well, now the first trailer for Dune: Part Three is here, and it seems that maybe, just maybe, director Denis Villeneuve has done it again.

Set 17 years after the events of the previous film, Dune: Part Three is an adaptation of Frank Herbert’s sequel to Dune, Dune: Messiah. It sees Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) dealing with the consequences of his newfound powers as Emperor, as well as the burdens of being a father. And, in this trailer, we get to see how Paul’s personal life and political ambitions are about to clash not just on the planet Arrakis but on other planets too. As we said, this looks even more awesome than Part Two, in all senses of the word.

So as you can see, Dune: Part Three is bringing back seemingly everyone that’s still around, and even a few people who weren’t. There’s Zendaya as Chani, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides, and even Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho. Duncan was killed in the first movie, but this is a sci-fi world, so he’s back.

Noticeably absent in the trailer is Josh Brolin, whose Gurney Halleck character is an important one in the book. For now, we’re not sure if he’s in the film or not. Ditto for the sandworms. But, since the film is still eight months away, maybe those effects aren’t done yet. The sandworms weren’t seen until later trailers for the previous films.

Then, of course, there are the new additions. Most notably, Robert Pattinson as Scytale, a character who sets himself up against Paul.

But from the emotional family stuff to the epic war scenes, new ships and planets, Paul’s madness, the Fremen armies, and so much more, Dune: Part Three truly looks like an epic conclusion of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune Trilogy. We can’t wait to see it.

Check back later today for more from Villeneuve and the cast. Dune: Part Three opens December 18.
