Mortal Kombat II finally brought its notoriously deadly interdimensional martial arts tournament to the big screen after 2021’s Mortal Kombat spent nearly two hours faffing about without depicting the event for which the film is named. To be fair, Mortal Kombat couldn’t have brought anything to the big screen, given that it was released straight to HBO Max during covid, but the fact remains that it failed to show the one thing its title promised, and Mortal Kombat II, simply by taking place during the tournament, was an automatic upgrade. And now you can watch Kitana (Adeline Rudolph) and Johnny Cage (Karl Urban) duke it out from the comfort of your home when Mortal Kombat II hits digital platforms on June 9.
In addition to being available to rent or buy digitally starting next week, Mortal Kombat II is also getting a 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD release on July 28. The physical edition will have some fun extras, including:
Mortal Kombat II did away with a lot of the lore and worldbuilding from Mortal Kombat, almost serving as a soft reset for the series. A third Mortal Kombat film is in development with Mortal Kombat II screenwriter Jeremy Slater set to pen the script.
