Now that the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max are officially available for purchase, it’s on to next year’s iPhone.
A new leak from semi-reliable leaker Digital Chat Station (read via machine translation) suggests next year’s “Pro” iPhones will have three innovations: a quad-curved corner design, an even smaller Dynamic Island than the shrunken-down one on the iPhone 18 Pros, and larger display sizes.
The leaker says that the “iPhone 20 Pro” and “iPhone 20 Pro Max,” which would mark the 20th anniversary of the iPhone, will have a 6.4-inch display with 2,686 x 1,236 resolution and a 6.96-inch display with 2,912 x 1,340 resolution, respectively. That’d be a tiny increase from the 6.3-inch iPhone 18 Pro and 6.9-inch iPhone 18 Pro Max.
But the bigger selling points for these 20th anniversary iPhones could be their quad-curved glass design. Apple will reportedly curve the corners on the glass to not only increase the screen size but also reduce the bezel thickness and blend the glass deeper into the metal mid-frame. The result could be a design that’s similar to the iPhone X, but with less metal and more glass.
In August, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said, “A more aspirational version championed by Apple’s design studio used even more glass, instead of metal, but was scrapped early on.”
Interestingly enough, Digital Chat Station only claims that the Dynamic Island will be a hole-punch camera, rather than being eliminated. On the iPhone 18 Pros, Apple moved the Face ID sensor under the display, rather than it being in the pill-shaped cutout alongside the selfie camera. Along with the under-display FaceTime camera on the iPhone Duo’s inner screen, it has been widely speculated that these are stepping stones to a true “all-screen” iPhone. It’s still early days for leaks on the next iPhone Pros, but even the mighty Apple might not be able to fully put a good-enough selfie camera underneath the screen. While Apple hasn’t shared any resolution specs for the iPhone Duo’s under-display FaceTime camera, early photo and video samples shared from its launch event on Sept. 9 confirm the quality is bad.
The big question is, how much will the iPhone 20 Pros cost? I’d bet more than the current $1,199 for the iPhone 18 Pro and $1,299 for the iPhone 18 Pro Max, but less than the $1,999 Apple is asking for the iPhone Duo.
Oh, and if you were wondering why there won’t be an “iPhone 19 Pro”… there wasn’t an iPhone 9, either. Apple skipped when it launched the iPhone 8/8 Plus and iPhone X simultaneously.
